Financed in part with Low Income Housing Tax Credit, Dixon Development brought much-needed housing to a growing area of Milwaukee's south side. The 73-unit National Avenue Lofts offer apartments and town homes at below-market rents to people earning no more than 60% of the area's median income. The corridor that bridges downtown with the Fifth Ward, the Latin Quarter and Bay View, has always maintained a mix of businesses and residences, but the development adds new modern units to largely older single-family homes and duplexes.
Workforce housing is always in demand,” said Tim Dixon. “Young teachers, administrative assistants and police officers who need and want to live in the City of Milwaukee are seeking downtown-style apartments with modern amenities. These are beautiful new units that individuals and families can call home,” said Dixon, a long-time downtown resident who has raised his four children in Brewers Hill. “This is the type of community that serves as a springboard for further development, making neighborhoods more energized and safer. It's what the city needs.”
